Ceramic Tile 101

From the floors of the ancient Pyramids, to the protective covering on the Space Shuttle, ceramic tile has been one of the most versatile materials ever developed by man. Today ceramic tile durability, cleanability, and limitless options of color and texture make it the most used flooring surface in the world.

Ceramic tiles are still produced with the same basic techniques used 4000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians. Wet clay is formed in a mold and allowed to dry. When the clay is removed from the mold, it is then heated in a special kiln at temperatures up to 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. This firing process melts the surface of the clay forming an incredible hard, smooth shell which is capable of withstanding the effects of friction, chemicals, and exposure to the elements.

Because ceramic material will literally last for decades, tile surfaces are one of the best investments you can make in your home. Call Tristar Tile and Floor Restoration to see how you can reap greater dividends from that investment in the future, while enjoying great looking floors requiring very minimal upkeep today.
